This was the start of a lot. The beginning of one of, if not the best friendships I have, it was the beginning of basically all the "band videos." Brian, just a guy in my print shop class, knew i did video stuff, and asked me one day if I could "put him on American Idol?" I figured, probably, we set up a green screen right there in the computer lab. I filmed him doing his thing, and then that night, went through a VHS recording of a recent episode of American Idol, finding clips that would work. I make a clean plate of the American Idol stage (this was like a decade before content aware fill came along so it was all by hand with the clone tool, painting out whatever contestant was originally there.) I green screened him into the stage, and have a video to show the next morning. It was an instant classic.
The shadow is pretty bad, and the key is wobbly, the judges clothes randomly change... but somehow it just works.
